Volunteer and make an impact!

Paxmead are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our volunteer team.  This site is a central focus for Girlguiding Surrey West and we would love to welcome you into our growing team. Here are our current volunteer vacancy roles:

Paddlesport Instructors

Our amazing boating team are responsible for running Paxmead’s water based sessions and events. As such, we are always on the lookout for new and active people to join our team! As a volunteer, you will be invited to help run boating sessions with groups of Guiding and Scouting individuals for brilliantly-fun events on the River Thames.

This opportunity is perfect for anyone looking to learn new skills or develop their existing knowledge! We welcome applicants of any level, both those who already hold boating instructor qualifications, and/or anyone wishing to train as one of our volunteer instructors.

As the role will be undertaken at Paxmead, we will require a DBS check and Girlguiding’s Safe Space Level 1&2 courses to be completed (which will be organised by the Paxmead team for all volunteers).

Training for your qualification will include, regular practice on the river and the completion of a couple of training day courses, before your qualifying test (participants must be at least 14 years old).

Management Committee Secretary

To arrange and do the paperwork for the Paxmead Management Committee.  This includes gathering reports from committee members, taking notes, producing minutes and circulating them.  Meetings are typically held 4 times a year but, in this time of change, there may need to be 1 or 2 more.  This would suit someone who wants to be part of the change but who can only spare evenings, for example.

Activities Lead (non-boating)

Although best known for offering boating, Paxmead offers other activities as well.  We need someone to lead on the management of existing activities including checking, maintaining and, where suitable, extending them.  Part of the plan is to grow the number of non-boating activities, both fixed equipment as well as ideas for games and meetings, and the Lead would be responsible for investigating ideas to be proposed to the Management Committee.  If you have a creative streak, understand what young people enjoy and are willing to take this to completion, this may be for you.

All roles are for volunteers. We appreciate that volunteers are busy people, so job-share arrangements are also welcomed and encouraged. You do not need to be a member of Girlguiding but must have an understanding and empathize with our aims and objectives.
